The gallery director, vice chairman of China Mr. Fan: "keep a persistent - Yang Hao oil paintings" preface extracts (1989)
Yang Haoshi’ oil paintings are all inspired by his feelings of life… as growing up in the southern Fujian, he is familiar with the life and customs in southern Fujian. In spite of that, he still visits islands, fishing villages, and countryside fields again and again to feel more deeply of the people in ordinary life and the nature and record detailed painting materials and further extract artistic themes and presentation contents. From the consistent contents of his paintings, we can see his sincere affection for laborers and ordinary life. He does not take them as symbols for painting but is sincerely shaping their images and their living conditions. He does not only depicts the customs in southern Fujian but also praises the healthy conditions and spiritual world of laborers.
People who are familiar with Haoshi can all feel his purity and sincerity, his brightness and gentleness. He pursues austere aesthetic interest. His painting style is just like his person. In oil painting language, he stresses both sound shaping of images and balanced layout of the painting. He also has pursuit in the form of painting. Unlike young artists who focus on form operation, he tries to combine formal beauty and artistic theme to turn the formal factors of the painting into the soul of the painting.
