Plum Blossoms by Yang Haoshi (138×55cm)
Zhang Xiong Art correspondence (article/Wei Jie)Yang Haoshi is an artist who exchanges his heart with painting. He attaches his paintings with strong scholarly and literati flavor. Apart from visual beauty, his free-style paintings of birds and flowers and figures have their own charm, not breaking the tradition, not falling into conventional pattern.
Yang Haoshi is well known for his oil painting; in fact, he also “plays” traditional Chinese painting. He integrates the affection of real life in oil painting into the creation of traditional Chinese painting and creates ink paintings full of favor of life and humanistic mood with ink. They are as realistic and powerful as oil painting, yet more poetic.
The combination and composition of objects in Yang’s paintings are all arranged particularly to make the paintings appear extremely splendid. Even his bird-and-flower paintings, without complicate contents, are more vivid and full of poetic and literati flavor with ingenious layouts. Yang’s ingenuity in ink use is also revealed in his shaping of figures. His strokes are succinct, smooth and clean, but sufficient to manifest the emotions of the figures. The real beauty of the figures, may it be portraits of masters or figures of ordinary Hui’an women, can all be restored in Yang Haoshi’ paintings with true affection. And that real beauty is what a painting should present the most.
